Heard about CBD products, but not sure what they are?

There’s no doubt that CBD oil is gaining popularity.

In 2015, the CBD market in the U.S. was $202 million. That number is expected to grow to $2.1 billion by 2020. But before you become a consumer of CBD products, wouldn’t you like to become well-informed?

CBD stands for cannabidiol, which is one of over 100 cannabinoids found in Cannabis sativa, the Latin name for cannabis or hemp.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is the most prevalent cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant. It’s history in medicine dates back to prehistory. It has long been pushed aside while scientists and users focused on the mind-altering component, THC.

What are cannabinoids?

In brief, they are the natural chemical constituents of cannabis and hemp. CBD is one of the most well-known and well-researched cannabinoids. Others you may have heard of include tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabichromene (CBC), cannabinol, (CBN).

Each cannabinoid has unique properties. Many times the ratio of CBD to other cannabinoids can enhance or moderate its effects. CBD oil is the most popular for preventing and/or treating a variety of health conditions.

CBD has been known to reduce anxiety and stress, inflammation and pain; as well as topical ailments like psoriasis, acne and eczema.

CBD oil is non-intoxicating, has almost no side effects, and is virtually impossible to lethally overdose.

What Is CBD Oil Compared to Marijuana Oil?

By botanical standards, marijuana and hemp are both cannabis. In common terms, marijuana is the named used often for cannabis strains with THC. Strains without THC are informally classified as hemp.

What is CBD oil made from? Hemp, sometimes called industrial hemp. While marijuana also contains some CBD, using hemp prevents the inadvertent inclusion of THC. It’s also easier to manage the quality and quantity of CBD in the oil it’s made from hemp.

This is why CBD oil is also known as hemp oil. CBD oil is usually made using the whole plant.

How is CBD Oil made?

The two most common ways to make CBD oil are alcohol extraction and CO2 extraction.

Alcohol extraction involves soaking the hemp plant in a solvent such as ethanol. The solvent leeches out the CBD and other cannabinoids from the plant. The alcohol solution is then heated, which causes evaporation. The heat doesn’t damage the cannabinoids. So, the residue after evaporation is an oil rich in cannabinoids.

The CO2 method involves forcing carbon dioxide (CO2) through the hemp plant. This action, done through temperature and pressure changes within chambers of specialized equipment. The CO2 causes the cannabinoids to separated from the plant and allow collection in the various chambers of the equipment.

Both methods can produce high-quality CBD oil. But some people believe the CO2 method can improve purity because of the way different cannabinoids are capture in separate chambers. That, in turn, makes it easier to control the ratio of CBD to other cannabinoids.

What should I look for when buying CBD oil?

Consider the following questions:

  1.  Where is the hemp grown or sourced from?

  2.  Is the oil full spectrum or isolate?

  3.  What other ingredients are in the oil?

  4.  Is it 3rd party tested? -- This is a big one because it will lay out ingredient and potency.

Does CBD Oil get you high?

No. Nope. Noo. We carry Zero % THC CBD oil that contains zero THC, the psychoactive property found in some strains of cannabis. CBD is made from hemp, the collection of cannabis strains with no THC.

We also carry the Full Spectrum CBD Oil that contains 0.3% THC, but that still is not enough to get you "high".

Carolina Forest Pharmacy is a proud distributor of full spectrum CBD products

CBD Overview:

  • Full spectrum CBD is a non-intoxicating component of the cannabis plant with enormous therapeutic potential.

  • CBD can help treat a wide range of conditions, such as chronic pain, rheumatoid arthritis, PTSD, anxiety, sleep disorders and much more.

  • Full spectrum hemp extract incorporates multiple cannabinoids. Studies show that the full spectrum product has the most benefits.

  • There is less than 0.3% of THC in the CBD products that we sell. This is such a small amount and it adds a lot of synergy where the final product is much more potent and beneficial.

So, how should I take it?

  • Dosage is unique to each person. But, regardless of what condition or symptoms you are looking to treat with CBD products, the dosing approach is basically the same. Everyone should start low and titrate higher based on the patient individual need. We recommend starting with 10mg of tincture or one 15 mg capsule. Take it 1-2 hours before bedtime with a meal for 3 days consecutively.

  • For the sublingual oil, place the drops underneath your tongue and/or between your cheeks, hold in your mouth for 30 seconds to 1 minute to allow for sublingual absorption. Drink water or juice to help swallow the remaining oil.

  • If it doesn’t produce the full therapeutic effects after 3 days, increase to either 2 dropper full /capsules (1 in the morning, 1 in the evening). Try this dose for 3 days before considering any changes.

  • Titrating up or down as needed. However, if you have used CBD or cannabis before, it is safe to start at a higher dose.

  • There is really no way to overdose on CBD, because of its safety. If you take too much, you will just feel more drowsy and relaxed.

Which product is right for me?

  • The most popular product is the tincture, or CBD drops. They are used sublingually and have no additives, so they have a very herby, lemon flavor.

  • If you do not like the smell or flavor, the capsules would be the best option for you.

  • The salve is best used for people with localized pain that is localized to a certain area of the body such as the foot.

Are there any side effects?

  • The only known side effects are drowsiness, dry mouth, lightheadedness, or heartburn (if not taken with food).

Is it legal?

  • Yes, any CBD products we sell are compliant with our state law, which is the THC level has to be below 0.3%
